Roots of Resilience
Empower Farmers
Equip 1,500 smallholder farmers with knowledge and resources for Moringa-based agroforestry and raise their income.
Enhance Food Security
Improve nutritional intake by promoting cultivation of nutrient-rich Moringa trees.
Create Climate Resilience
Increase biodiversity, reduce soil erosion, and enhance soil fertility through sustainable practices.
Sequestrate Carbon
Agroforestry systems enables raising carbon stock both above ground and in soil.
Project Components

1

Training and Capacity Building
Conduct comprehensive training programs for 1,500 smallholder farmers on Moringa-based agroforestry systems, and sustainable land management. Training on the processing and marketing of Moringa products.

2

Moringa Cultivation
Integrate Moringa trees with traditional crops and cash crops, creating diversified and resilient farming systems.

3

Monitoring and Evaluation
Rigorous monitoring and evaluation are essential to ensure the success and long-term impact of our Moringa-based agroforestry initiative. We have implemented a comprehensive system to track key performance indicators and gather valuable insights throughout the project lifecycle.

4

Project Replication
Project replication adopting a community-led approach across Kenya based on our previous learnings.

Research and Development
Maisha Marefu is partnering with Kenyatta University on research projects to ensure the most relevant impact on communities. The organisation is committed to adopting a data-driven approach to project development.
This collaboration focuses on Moringa-based agroforestry systems. Research investigates the current practices of the farmers, the impact of Moringa-based agroforestry systems on socio-economic development and the carbon sequestration potentiel of the project.
Data gathered from the research projects informs the development of training programs and extension services for farmers. This ensures that knowledge and practices are tailored to the specific needs of the communities.
